When do you operate?
TECKK Outfitters operate year round, but ease up in the winter due to weather and climate. Our busiest time is
May through September.
If I came in the winter what could I do?
There is sight seeing, winter King salmon fishing and hunting. There are minus tides at this time for digging up
clams, pinknecks, cockles.
How many people can you accommodate at one time?
TECKK has a 38-foot saltwater boat which can carry up to six clients at a time. We offer a road tour with a
12-passenger van for stream fishing or sight seeing. We will make arrangements for larger groups.
I have some physical disabilities and require a wheelchair, do you offer any options for me?
Absolutely! Please contact us for full information based on your individual needs, for you to truly experience the
beauty of Alaska.
What accommodations does TECKK have to offer?
We have a comfortable lodge for housing and meals that are catered.
What type of fishing will we do?
TECKK offers both saltwater and freshwater fishing, just minutes from Hoonah. Our guests fish an average of 7 to
8 hours per day or 4 hours if you are off the ship. There are 2 to 4 guests per guide. Halibut, Salmon (King, Silver,
Chum and Pink), Steelhead, and Dolly Varden are caught throughout the season. There is also the opportunity to
catch a variety of saltwater rock fish including Yellow Eye, Lingcod, Black Bass and Salmon Shark. If your stay is
long enough you can also set Dungeness Crab pots.
What rivers do you fish and when is the best time to fish them?
We primarily fish the Neka River and are fully guided due to bear activity. It is the perfect spot to fly fish or cast
fish. The river fishing can be a lot of fun and you can see lots of wild life. At the end of July through the middle of
September would be the ideal time to river fish. TECKK has permits for all areas around Hoonah.
What restrictions are there?
The fishing is based on the weather because it can get too rough to fish. However, there is always something to do
on these days. The river fishing is based on the tides.
What types of boats are used?
For saltwater excursions, we have a 38-foot saltwater boat. The boat has all the comforts of home. For river fishing
we use a 16 foot lund and a 25-horse power outboard.
What equipment does the Lodge furnish?
All rods, reels, tackle and bait are supplied for salt water fishing. Fly fishermen may prefer to bring their own
equipment for freshwater river fishing.
Do you provide binoculars for watching the wildlife?
If you need binoculars the wildlife is to far away to watch. We pride ourself on giving you that up-close and
personal tour that the other tour companies sometimes don't put as much effort into.
Do you provide drinks and snacks?
Yes. We can drop by Grandma Nina's Coffee Shop and take care of any needs that you may have, before or after
your tour, just let us know. Grandma Nina's is a local eatery owned by us and always a great place to drop by for
something to eat when you're in town.
How much fish can I bring back?
You can take home as much fish that you legally catch. We can process, vacuum bag and ship your fish for a very
reasonable fee or you can opt to take it with you on your return trip.
What clothing should I bring?
We recommend wearing layered clothing. Although the weather is generally mild, it's best to always be prepared in
Alaska and bring Thermal underwear, Turtlenecks, sweaters, shirts, rain gear, gloves and a jacket. It is good to
get a good pair of waterproof boots that fit and this will make your stay more enjoyable .
